John started his career in the commercial real estate business in 1981 in Denver, CO. Now based in South Florida, he is a partner in the The Dowd Companies—a successful commercial real estate development, brokerage and consulting firm—which he founded in 2014. Previously, John ran Boca Raton, FL based Encore Capital Management’s national retail development platform with projects including the Margaritaville Resort Orlando, Beachwalk Retail in Jacksonville and the redevelopment of the Plantation Fashion Mall in the Ft. Lauderdale area.
For the 18 years prior to Encore, he held the position of Senior Vice President of Development and Acquisitions for The Goodman Company based in West Palm Beach, Florida. While at The Goodman Company, he was responsible for all facets of the company’s development program throughout the Southeast US, Mid-Atlantic States and in Florida, including the negotiation and acquisition of land, overseeing the entitlement and construction process, and securing anchor tenant leases.
John has been personally involved in the development of 5.2 million square feet of shopping center and mixed-use developments and has a thorough understanding of the entire development process from raw land to grand opening not only with retail but complicated mixed-use projects.

Theresa K. Johnson Partner
Theresa leads The Dowd Companies Investment Sales group as a partner in the firm. With over 19 years of real estate and capital markets experience she has built her reputation on a client first sales approach. Her professional relationships extend nationwide to include the Nations top private and institutional clients. She is recognized as a top producer and a leader in the industry.
Throughout her career she has had continued success in the disposition of all asset classes including the disposition of multi-asset portfolios, anchored shopping centers, power centers, malls, NNN assets, CBD office buildings and large development land parcels. In addition, she understands and has successfully worked with special service providers on the disposition of distressed properties.
Previously, Theresa spent 4 years as SVP of Retail Investment Sales for the Capital Markets Group at the international commercial real estate firm, Avison Young, in Atlanta, GA. Prior to Avison Young, Theresa spent 7 years at Bull Realty, a regional commercial real estate firm in Atlanta as Senior Vice President of their Retail Capital Markets Group. She also is an active investor in her own partnerships and commercial real estate developments.
Theresa is an active member of the international Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM). Theresa is a graduate of Georgia State University.
